Amantadine 100mg Tablet (Am-dine) is a medication with dual therapeutic properties used to treat Parkinson’s disease symptoms and prevent or treat influenza A viral infections. It works by affecting dopamine levels and blocking viral replication. Uses Am-dine treats Parkinson’s disease symptoms including tremors, stiffness, and movement difficulties. It’s used for drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms and as antiviral therapy for influenza A prevention and treatment. Am-dine also helps manage fatigue associated with multiple sclerosis. Avoid taking late in the day to prevent insomnia. Duration of Action Amantadine 100mg is absorbed within 2-4 hours after oral administration with peak plasma levels occurring at this time. Effects for Parkinson’s symptoms may be noticed within 48 hours but full benefits develop over 1-2 weeks. The medication has a half-life of 10-28 hours, allowing twice-daily dosing. Side Effects Common side effects include dizziness, insomnia, nervousness, and nausea. Some patients experience dry mouth, constipation, or livedo reticularis (mottled skin discoloration). Less common effects include confusion, hallucinations, or orthostatic hypotension, especially in elderly patients. Warning Am-dine may cause mental confusion, hallucinations, or psychotic reactions, particularly in elderly patients or those with psychiatric history.
