2019 Vintage — Rioja DOCa, Rioja Alavesa, Spain The 2019 growing season in Rioja Alavesa was warm and dry, with a mild spring and a concentrated summer heat moderated by the Atlantic-influenced elevation of Alavesa. Minimal disease pressure and low yields allowed the grapes to achieve full phenolic ripeness while the cool nights typical of this northern sub-zone preserved freshness and natural acidity. The 2019s from Alavesa are considered some of the finest of the decade — ripe, structured and built for the medium to long term. Bodegas Solar de Samaniego is a family estate in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, farming predominantly old vine Tempranillo on the region’s characteristic limestone-clay soils. The Reserva is a classic expression of the appellation, blending the estate’s old vine Tempranillo with a portion of Graciano — a traditional variety prized for its natural acidity, deep colour and complex spice. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel before spending a minimum of 12 months in American and French oak, followed by an extended rest in bottle prior to release. Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva are all produced here, with the Reserva representing the core expression of the estate’s terroir-driven philosophy.
